Ikea Pax Bedroom Furniture
We've pitted Ikea - the most frequently bought brand in our survey - against specialist fitted wardrobe and bedroom furniture companies, such as Hammonds and Sharp, as well as budget brands Wickes, B&Q and Homebase.
When we asked 1,744 furniture owners to rate the brand they bought from, one brand emerged with an excellent customer score of 80%. But was that a traditional brand or flat-pack giant Ikea?
You can find out how all 10 brands – including John Lewis, Argos and Next – were rated by their customers in our guide to fitted wardrobes and bedroom furniture brands rated .

Our star ratings let us drill down into specifics of the buying process, looking at what areas companies are excelling at, and which they're letting customers down on.
To get these, we asked people who have bought in the last two years (since July 2018), as well as those who bought between May 2010 and June 2018, to see how well Ikea's furniture stands the test of time.

Ikea is best known for its affordable flat-pack freestanding furniture. But it also has a range of fitted wardrobe solutions, at a very reasonable price.
All Ikea wardrobes have a 10 year guarantee, the same as all the other companies we have reviewed.
Ikea fitted wardrobe doors
It has three main fitted wardrobes styles: Pax, Platsa and Elvarli.
- Pax wardrobes most closely resemble standard fitted wardrobes. They come with a huge range of configurations, doors and internal storage options.
- Platsa is a modular wardrobe system: you can pick and choose sections to build the storage you want.
- Elvarli is an open, doorless wardrobe system, which Ikea recommends for walk-in wardrobes.
Ikea's Pax and Platsa systems come with either hinged or sliding doors, or you can have them left open.
Doors come in different colours, wood effects, glass, matt and opaque options. There a few mirrored door options for Pax and one for Platsa (called Ridabu). There are also a couple of patterned options for the Pax wardrobe.
Some of its doors come with up to four divided panels within it, where you can have a mix of finishes, as seen in the image above. There are also a few shaker-style options, like in the image at the bottom of this page.
Ikea fitted wardrobe storage space
There are plenty of different types of storage options you can have inside your Ikea fitted wardrobes. These include: hooks; rails; drawers; shelves; dividers; pull-out trays; dedicated shoe storage; removable boxes; jewellery organisers and trouser hangers, to name but a few.
Ikea fitted furniture design service
Ikea has an in-store design service (with social distancing in place), but it won't send a designer out to visit your home, so you will need to measure the space yourself. You can also use its online planning tool.
Ikea has a comprehensive online planning tool for its Pax and Platsa fitted wardrobes. You can add different storage options to your chosen wardrobe, customise the doors and visualise your design.
It is also now offering virtual appointments, where you can discuss your room and needs, look at ideas and options, and plan the designs, similar to how you would in store. It's worth noting that the online meetings don't cover Elvarli systems.
Ikea furniture delivery time
As its furniture is pre-designed to certain configurations, delivery doesn't take long. But, depending on what you're after, you may be able to buy it in store and take it home immediately.
Can you fit your own Ikea fitted furniture?
Ikea's furniture is designed to be easy to build, so it doesn't have an installation service for its fitted furniture. However, it does offer an assembly service through partner company TaskRabbit.
The majority of people we surveyed (43%) actually installed their own furniture, while 16% got a friend or family member to do it. 12% found an installer themselves - use our Which? Trusted Traders service if you'd like to do the same and find a recommended installer near you.
Ikea types of fitted furniture
Ikea doesn't sell any other fitted bedroom furniture, but you can choose from a wide range of modular systems to help you build a more bespoke design, and its storage solutions can be used in any room.
